Maria:

Anna, where are you?"

我抬头看看,在哪里?喜喜不是坐在双双旁边吗?

又听见喜喜应她:"I am just in front of you."

"Where? I can’t find you."

"But why I can’t see you?"

"Now I can’t see you."

"You see me now?I came out from the jungle."

诸如此类的对话……让我觉得她们已经进入无人的境界。

Swifty: Tokyo. A city of contrasts. Traditional cherry blossoms vs scifi-like architecture

As I was walking back from Waseda University this afternoon, I noticed that the river was filled up with more cherry blossom petals than yesterday.

Look closely at the bottom right of the photo, did you see something? (You can click the photo view the large versions.)

There were tortoises! Amidst the pink river! And a, er, big bird.

And heck, some parts of the river had turned totally pink.

Instead of just crossing the bridge over the river like I did in the past two days, I decided to follow the line of cherry blossom trees, to walk along the river. I realized later that I was walking through the famed Edogawa Park. And many people were having their picnic under the trees.

Edogawa Park is actually just a narrow path that stretches along the river, with a long line of cherry blossom trees lined up beside it.

And as I reached the end of the park, I ended up near a subway station, which I took to Karakuen to get my 'alien card' done at the Bunkyo Civics center.

When I was at the center, I noticed that I was actually near Tokyo Dome. And I saw a nifty shopping mall called LAQUA, which has a cool-looking amusement park.

As I walked past a flight of steps, I couldn't help but marvel at how scifi-ish this place is.

People were heading towards the Tokyo Dome, which was going to have a baseball match between the Tokyo Giants and that Osaka team.

I thought the dome itself looked pretty cyberpunkish too.

Returning to Edogawa Park at night, I was expecting a solitary walk through a quiet park before I reach my dorm. I was surprised to see the place packed with even more people having their picnic.

During my three days here, I kinda felt that the people of Tokyo were constantly rushing towards somewhere, either towards their work, or back from work, to a stationo out of a station. I remembered how uneasy I was when I made the same observation six years ago during my very last trip in Japan. I felt as if I were moving too slow compared to the others, and that somehow, the constant moving was disturbing, too lifeless, too robotic, too uniform, I don't know, but then, I was feverish then (six years ago, not now), thus I had weird ideas.

Nonetheless, watching the people at the park, Tokyo feels like a city of contrasts. As advanced as the city may look, in terms of its architecture, simple traditions like enjoying the view of cherry blossoms remain intact, unlikely to ever disappear in future generations. People always seem to rush from one place to another, yet here they are, large crowds of them, doing nothing but sitting on the ground, enjoying great food, sharing great drinks, while savouring the view of cherry blossoms.

Funny that they don't take such things for granted.

PlanetLOWYAT: IBM completes Telelogic buy

IBM completes Telelogic buy for $845 million deal puts Big Blue in market to develop apps for devices.

With the acquisition, IBM moves into the fast-growing market of software development for non-computer devices, such as home appliances, car anti-locking braking systems, and navigation systems. Other markets where IBM can make headway include retailers, medical systems, airplanes, consumer electronics, space telescopes, and robots, IBM said.

“Telelogic is an important element of our software and systems development and delivery strategy,” said Daniel Sabbah, general manager, IBM Rational Software, in a statement released by the company. “Software is at the heart of embedded devices and systems. Whether it’s used to develop the next generation of communication devices or systems for space exploration, this IBM technology has important implications for society.”

The marriage of hardware and software, such as with the Apple iPhone, is creating an enormous market opportunity, IBM said. Telelogic’s expertise in complex systems development will boost IBM’s opportunity and leadership in the embedded and complex systems development space, said IBM. With Telelogic, IBM can accelerate innovation of products that rely on software, the company said.

Neither Microsoft nor HP have the integrated software and systems capabilities as IBM has in this arena, IBM said.

The tender offer for Telelogic was announced June 11, 2007. The original offer of $745 million rose to $845 million because of currency fluctuation, IBM said. Telelogic will report to the IBM Rational Software unit.

Simon Talks: Remembering Whitesnake

Back in the hair-metal days of the 80’s, most of the mat rocks I knew were all into the bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi, LA Guns, and a whole load of ‘em poodle rock bands.

But the serious metal fans (as paradoxical as that sounds), well, they were into Whitesnake. I dunno, in the whole hair metal scene, Whitesnake were quite different. Maybe because they were British, but so were Def Leppard, but there was something that set them apart. In retrospect, i can guess it was because of David Coverdale, the lead singer (and leader) of the band, that was the driving force (and only member to remain over the years). Coverdale, as many would know, was once from Deep Purple.

The band hit big time around 1987-88 (altho they were around since 1978) with the Whitesnake album, at the height of the hair metal craze sweeping the world. MTV caught on with their videos (especially on Headbanger’s Ball) like ‘Still of the Night’, ‘Here I Go Again’ (featuring a very hawt Tawny Kitaen dancing on a car), and ‘Is This Love’.

Next came the ‘Slip of the Tongue’ in 1989. I remember buying the album and after listening to it, went “what on earth is this?!” It was a very disappointing album for me.

By the early 90’s, the meteor named Kurt Cobain and grunge had killed all the metal dinosaurs, so it was also pretty much downhill from there for Whitesnake, too. But looking back, Coverdale had always been an excellent singer. And their music, though slightly dated, still held up much better than their contemporaries… Yeah, try listening back to Crue’s ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!’ or ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time’ by Poison and you’ll see what i mean.

And thanks to Youtube, i had a great time reminiscing about Whitesnake… below are ‘Is This Love’, ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Still of the Night’.

BobbyToat: Bloggeries Reviewed

Bloggeries is a blogging forum, where it is attended by bloggers, webmasters as well as internet marketeers. There are many benefits of joining Bloggeries, such as:
  1. You can make friends with many bloggers
  2. You can get good advice and latest news about the blogosphere
  3. You can share revenue with Bloggeries if you have AdSense account
  4. You get paid if you signup for webhosting and domain from HostGator and GoDaddy through the forum under Rob's affiliate ID (he is the forum owner)
  5. You can sell or buy services and products on this forum
My experience on this forum has been a very pleasant one. It is not as crowded as the Digital Point Forums and consequently the discussions there are of high quality and there are also less scams and spammy members to be found. I have managed to make some friends on this forum, they are really helpful bloggers. By networking on this forum, I managed to get some linkbacks and also small reviews from the generous bloggers there on their pageranked sites!

There are a few really important subforums in Bloggeries that I will mention here and at the end of this review, I am also going to highlight certain shortcomings of this forum.

Show Off Your Blog subforum
This is the subforum where you can post your blog's URL and let other forum members visit it and give you comment and feedback about your blog. This is a good place for you to attract new readers and expose your blog to a larger audience. Obviously if people like your blog, they might share it with other friends or return for more content.

Buy, Sell and Trade Classifieds subforum
This subforum is the business center of Bloggeries. You can buy, sell and trade stuffs here. I have personally sold my articles here to a few bloggers.

Blogging Basics, Blog Marketing and Make Money Blogging subforums
Each subforum's functions is clearly indicated in their names. Blogging beginners can learn from the Blogging Basics subforum while anyone who wishes to market their blogs better can visit the Blog Marketing subforum. Make Money Blogging subforum mainly discusses anything about monetizing your blogs, but I don't think we are allowed to promote affiliate links here or anywhere else on Bloggeries.

Bloggeries Lounge and Bloggeries News and Site Updates subforums
The Bloggeries Lounge subforum can be used to post miscellaneous thoughts and also your introduction when you first joined Bloggeries. In the Bloggeries News and Site Updates subforum, you can find out about the future direction of Bloggeries, its current development and also any special promotion such as membership drive cum referral contest.

The main thing that I like about this forum is the personal touch and interaction with Rob, the owner of the forum and generally all the members here are very friendly and helpful.

However, this forum can certainly be better if it has more active members, opportunities and also traders. The opportunities that I feel are missing are in the forms of freebies and also free directories submission which are available almost everyday in the Digital Point Forums. More attention should be given here to attract these kinds of free offers to Bloggeries, probably by offering these freebies peddlers some sort of benefits in return (mutual benefits attraction works most of the time!). However, this situation can change for the better, if only Bloggeries could increase its number of active members, certainly some people would take it more seriously and become more interested to promote their products or services there. You can make a difference, join a friendly, resourceful and helpful forum now and make it better!

Join Bloggeries Now!

P.S. While you are at the forum, don't forget to check out Bloggeries Blog Directory and Blog Review too...
